The Avalanche on Tuesday traded prospect defenseman Cameron Gaunce to Dallas in exchange for winger Tomas Vincour.

Gaunce had 60 points (9 goals, 51 assists), 272 penalty minutes and a plus-22 rating in 197 games with Lake Erie over the past three seasons. He appeared in 11 games for the Avalanche in 2010-11, scoring one goal and amassing 16 penalty minutes. He will be assigned to the Texas Stars, Dallas’ AHL affiliate.

Vincour, 22, played 15 games for Dallas this season, scoring two goals and collecting an assist. In 86 NHL games, the 6-foot-2, 204-pound Czech winger has 15 points (7 goals, 8 assists) to go along with a -7 plus/minus rating and 8 penalty minutes. In 47 games with the Texas Stars this year, he has 13 goals and 15 assists. He will be assigned to Lake Erie.

Vincour was selected by Dallas in the fifth round (129th overall) of the 2009 Entry Draft.

Neither prospect involved in this trade is yet to live up to his potential and this move shows that both organizations believe a change of scenery could boost their chances.
